The Year In Culture 2011: When High Met Low

A show from the creators of one of the most foul-mouthed shows in television history was able to not only captivate New York's scores of visitors, but the theatre elite as well, who uniformly praised the show as fresh and new and vital, and made it the hardest ticket to get in town. It also picked up the Tony award for best musical and a slew of others to boot; not bad for a show that contains a song with a refrain of "Fuck you, God," and a tribe leader named "General Butt-Fucking-Naked." Proof that commercial theatre could still be fun, legitimately funny, finely crafted, critically acclaimed and hugely successful, without resorting to stunt-casting or an old movie title.
